Velvet 10ft H x 52" W Curtain Drape Panels
These velvet drape panels are 10 feet tall and 52 inches wide, with a 4-inch pocket at the top that slides onto a backdrop crossbar. They work for photo walls, head table and dessert table backdrops, stage fronts, and room dividers in venues with standard ceiling heights. Each panel is sold individually, so the main decisions are how many panels your backdrop width needs and which color fits your event. The sections below walk through both.
What You Get With Each Panel
- Size: 10 ft high x 52" wide per panel.
- Top pocket: 4" pocket for sliding onto a crossbar or pole.
- Fabric weight: Approximately 200 GSM velvet. That weight gives the panel enough body to hang straight instead of looking thin or flimsy.
- Opacity: Approximately 70% to 90%. The velvet absorbs light well, which helps photos look clean, but some light can show through if a bright light or window sits directly behind the panel.
- Quantity: One panel per unit ordered. Order the full number of panels your backdrop needs.
How Many Panels Do You Need?
Divide your backdrop width in inches by 52, then add extra panels if you want gathered folds instead of a flat wall of fabric. Round up to the next whole panel.
- 8 ft wide backdrop (96"): 2 panels for a flat look, 3 for a light gathering, 4 for full, deep folds.
- 10 ft wide backdrop (120"): 3 panels flat, 4 for a light gathering, 5 for full folds.
- 20 ft wide backdrop (240"): 5 panels flat, 7 for a light gathering, 10 for full folds.
A light gather uses about 1.5 times the backdrop width in fabric, and full folds use about 2 times. Velvet shows its sheen best when it falls in folds, so most event backdrops use at least a light gathering. The drape calculator in our size guide for drapes and linens runs this math for any crossbar length and fullness level.
Choosing the Right Height
A 10ft panel is meant for backdrop frames set at or near 10 feet. Set your crossbar at about 10 feet for a floor-length look, or lower it a few inches if you want the velvet to pool slightly at the floor. If your uprights only reach 8 feet, expect about 2 feet of extra fabric on the floor, which can look intentional for a photo wall but can be a trip hazard near walkways.
If you don't have a frame yet, browse our adjustable uprights, crossbars, and bases for backdrop supports. For other drape fabrics and sizes, see our full event draping and backdrops collection.

Screen colors can vary from the actual fabric. If an exact match matters, check a fabric sample before ordering a full set.
Wrinkles, Steaming, and Care
Velvet panels can arrive with fold lines from packaging. Plan to steam them before your event, ideally a day ahead so the fabric has time to hang and relax.
- Steam, don't iron. Pressing an iron on velvet can flatten the pile and leave shiny marks. Hang the panel and run a handheld steamer over the back side, keeping it moving.
- Watch the heat. Synthetic fabrics can scorch or melt under high, direct heat. Keep the steamer head slightly away from the fabric.
- Clean carefully. Spot-clean small marks with a cleaner made for delicate fabrics. For a full cleaning, professional dry cleaning helps preserve the color and texture.
- Store hanging or rolled. Garment bags or backdrop storage bags keep dust off and reduce hard creases between events. Rolling causes fewer deep creases than tight folding.
Building the Full Look Around Your Backdrop
A velvet backdrop usually sits behind a head table, sweetheart table, or dessert table, so the table setup in front of it shows up in nearly every photo.
- Table base: Floor-length tablecloths for weddings and events hide table legs and storage underneath. For example, a 120" round tablecloth on a 60" round table reaches the floor.
- Color accent: Add table runners in the same color as your drape to tie the table to the backdrop.
- Place settings: Metallic charger plates in gold or silver stand out against darker velvet colors like black, cabernet, and emerald.
- Napkins: Folded cloth napkins are an easy way to repeat your backdrop color at every seat.
- Table centerpieces: Keep centerpieces on head tables low enough that they don't block the backdrop or faces in photos.
- Seating: Use chair linens such as covers, bands, or sashes to cover mismatched chairs and carry the color into the guest seating.
For Decorators, Venues, and Rental Businesses
Because panels are sold one at a time, you can build backdrop inventory in the widths you book most and add colors over time. If you plan to reorder a color later and need it to match your existing stock, contact our customer care team before ordering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it cheaper to buy velvet drapes than to rent them?
It depends on how many times you'll use them. At $23.99 per panel, a 10ft wide backdrop with full folds (5 panels) costs about $120 to own. Compare that to your rental quote, then factor in that you can reuse the panels for future events or sell them afterward. That order also meets our free shipping threshold of $99 for the contiguous USA (exclusions apply). Prices are current as of this writing and may change.
Does one unit include a pair of panels?
No. Each unit is one 10ft x 52" panel. Use the panel counts above or the drape calculator in our size guide to order the right number.
Are these velvet drapes flame retardant?
The product listings do not state a flame-retardant rating or certification. If your venue requires a certificate for drapery, contact our customer care team before ordering.
Will the velvet look see-through?
The listed opacity is approximately 70% to 90%. Under normal event lighting the panels look solid, but strong light or a window directly behind them can show through. Placing the backdrop in front of a wall or using a full gather reduces this.
How do I get the wrinkles out?
Hang the panels and steam them from the back side with a handheld steamer, keeping it moving and slightly away from the fabric. Avoid ironing, which can crush the velvet pile.
